Just to keep everything in Biblical perspective.
Remember when Indiana passed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act? It was passed in order to protect citizens from being forced to violate their religious beliefs (such as forcing a Christian caterer into serving a homosexual event).

This happened just as the NCAA Basketball Tournament was approaching the Final Four games, which were scheduled to be played in Indianapolis.

The pro-homosexual crowd threatened boycott and other economic attacks, and Indiana accommodated by amending the bill, gutting it of its intent to protect Christians, thus betraying the Christian community.

Now, here is what did not happen and what did happen.
Indiana did not deliberately decide to betray Christians, although that is what happened. They chose the path of political and financial expediency. Indiana did not want homosexual oppression of Christians, but that is what they got as a result.

Likewise, the Confederacy did not choose slavery because of racial oppression. The leadership chose slavery for financial advantage. If there had been no financial advantage to slavery, it would not have been an issue. Keep in mind, not all southerners wanted slavery, anymore them all Hoosiers wanted to oppress Christians.

IT WAS WRONG
It produced racial oppression, but it was a financial decision, concerned with survival, not a racial decision. I am not denying that there was racism, but it was in the north and south, under both flags. I am simply pointing out that governments make terrible decisions for financial and political reasons. Therefore it is not accurate to blame the south with anymore racism than the north.

So, what is my Biblical point?
1Timothy 6:10
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

IT STILL HAPPENS
Wars are fought, people are enslaved, oppressed, imprisoned, killed, because of the love of money. Babies are murdered for financial gain and political power. Immorality of all kinds (including homosexuality) is protected and promoted in exchange for money and power.

IT IS WRONG. It is sin. It produces heinous behavior.
But if we are going to burn the South and denounce it for the actions of some of its leaders, then it might be equitable if we did the same with every government.

Yes, some governments were/are based on hatred and racism, such as Nazi Germany (though not all Germans were monsters or racists), and nations based on Islamic law are racists, because of their theology.

But for the most part, wickedness is fueled by greed and power.

By the way, i do not post this with any illusion that it will change America. I just hope to encourage my FB friends to look at things through the eyes of truth, grace, love, fairness, tolerance.
