HEARING WITH THE HEART
Years ago I had a parishioner who came to Bible classes with the same questions, over and over. I realize that with some people, their mouths are on the Express Line, but their heads are Slow Freight, so I would answer his questions, hoping that one day he would finally get it. The years passed , but he never seemed to get a grasp of the subject. He eventually moved. (he is probably holding seminars on the subject now. hehehe)
I have also had people that have heard me teach, preach and counsel certain doctrines for many years. They did not get it, regardless of how simple I made it, and regardless of how many people around them understood it. THEN, they went to a seminar, or read a book or heard another preacher; they came to me and told me that they had discovered something really life changing. YEP, you guessed it. The same thing I had been telling them over and over and over again.
But there was often a difference. They had learned the words, the formulas, the nuances, but they still did not get the livable meaning. They were very vocal in what they thought they had learned, but still lived at the corner of Carnal and Shallow.
Then there were the people who heard me lift up a warning concerning the traps and snares of specific issues. The next thing I knew, they were totally ensnared carried away by something they had learned from some captivating guru somewhere.
This is where I mention that people need ears to hear what the Spirit says to the churches. Sometimes the word of the Lord is rare, but sometimes it is because the hearers choose to be deaf to the will and word of God.
