BE CAREFUL, HE IS A WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING
Just keep in mind, if it is contrary to God's moral law, God DOES NOT EXPECT US to participate in it, in fact, God DOES NOT ALLOW US to participate in it; more narrowly, if it APPEARS TO BE EVIL, God does not want us to participate in it.
I saw an article (supposedly written by a Christian, though the author admittedly does not accept God's revelation as authoritative), that made the claim that Christians should participate in Sodomite celebrations, based on the passage that we should be willing to go the extra mile. The application of that Bible passage and concept is wrong. They are two totally different issues. God does not expect us to participate in evil celebrations or celebrations of evil.
The early Church understood the cost of discipleship along these lines. Believers in the first years of the Church refused working in certain fields, which were not evil in themselves, but they were celebrated or solemnized by pagan rituals and sacrifices. This was costly to the believers, economically, socially, personally, relationally and legally. This separation from sinful activities was actually used by non-believers to say that Christians were "atheist" because they did not honor the pagan gods. Not only are we expected to avoid evil, we must avoid the very appearance of evil, so that we will not be a stumbling block to the weak, whether Christian or heathen. If eating or drinking causes others to stumble, we must avoid it.
1 Thessalonians 5:22
(22) Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1 Corinthians 8:13 (read vss. 9-13)
(13) Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
The article also fell back on that tired old argument that Christians should "obey the government." If you know me, you know I believe in obedience to legitimate authority. However, sometimes authorities overreach their position and God has told us in those situations that it is better to obey God than obey man. If the law of the land tells us to do something that conflicts with our Christian commitment, we must disobey the law.
Acts 5:29
(29) Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Now, I base my beliefs and behavior on the word of God. But, if we are going to invoke the law of the land, then remember the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
First Amendment to the United States Constitution
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Don't be fooled by Satan. It is not all right to participate in another man's wickedness. Loving my neighbor does not mean I have to do what my neighbor does, and it does not mean I have to do what my neighbor tells me to do. Sometimes loving my neighbor and loving God means that I will become a question, a spectacle in the eyes of the world, that I will be despised by the world, that I will be persecuted for living by my convictions.
