Everyone is following someone, either intentionally or by default, even if they think they are not following anyone.
THE LAMB OF GOD
* The Bible refers to Jesus as the Lamb of God. This is related to the sacrificial death Christ chose to die in our behalf. The Old Testament death of animals was symbolic and prototypical, of the sinless life and sacrificial death of Jesus.
* Jesus said, if we wanted to be His disciples, we must deny ourselves, take up our cross daily, and follow Him.
* The apostle Peter said, Jesus left us an example, that we should follow His steps (going on to say that He did no sin).
JUDAS GOAT
* A Judas Goat (named for the betrayer of Christ), is a goat that has been trained to lead other goats and sheep, usually to slaughter. The other animals trust the Judas Goat and submissively follow to their death.
* Whatever we follow, leading us away from the God of the Holy Bible is ultimately our Judas Goat. This can be pleasure, power, prestige, or it could be a philosophy, a movement, a person, but it leads away from total trust in Christ.
* We make the choice.
OUR CHOICE
* We have all gone astray. Some have left the flock and some are "feral," in the sense that they never had a Christian upbringing or understanding. In either case, we have all chosen to follow in the steps that lead away from God.
* But Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost.
HE CAME TO CALL US TO HIMSELF.
* By trusting Him as the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world, we are invited to follow in His steps. His steps lead us through difficult terrain, and through spiritual battlefields, but they ultimately lead us to be with Him, throughout eternity.
* The Bible says that many are called, but few are chosen. The Bible also says to make our calling and election sure. We do this by trusting in Christ and submitting to His Lordship.
* The choice is ours.
