NOTES FROM BIBLE STUDY (last night)

NOTES FROM BIBLE STUDY (last night)
Israel's bondage, exodus from Egypt, wilderness journey and entrance to the Promised Land was real, but it is also symbolic of the Christian experience. Here is the bare bones overview. I gave the Biblical background for each point and interacted with the congregation. (I use the word, "symbol" loosely).

COMPONENTS AND SYMBOLISM
Egypt ... The life of sin.
Pharaoh ... Satan.
Moses and Joshua ... The Deliverer.
Plagues ... God's judgment on false gods.
Passover ... The atoning death of Christ.

PASSOVER SPECIFICS
Beginning of months ... New life in Christ.
Passover meal eaten together ... Fellowship feast on Christ.
Lamb ... Christ.
Lamb, male, without blemish ... Worthy Sacrifice; Christ is Perfect Sacrifice.
Blood of lamb ... Blood of Christ.
Kept 4 days ... Christ was Prepared and Proved.
Blood on lintels and door posts ... Sign (seal) of separation of believers.
Blood of Passover Lamb ... Blood of Christ.
Applied with Hyssop ... Hyssop represents cleansing, purification.
Blood not applied to threshold ... We must not tread Christ's blood underfoot.
Lamb roasted whole ... We need all of Christ and Christ is all we need.
Roasted, Eaten, Burned ... Total sacrifice of Christ.
Unleavened Bread ... Unleavened bread is absence of sin.
Dressed and ready for travel ... Converts need to be ready to leave sin completely and immediately.

THREE OTHER PROPHETIC PASSAGES IN GENESSIS
Shed blood of animals killed for covering Adam and Eve ... The blood of Christ covers our sins.
Genesis 3:15 ... First Messianic prophecy.
Abraham sacrificed Isaac ... Father gave His Son.
