REMAINING BIBLICAL
Isn't it interesting that while false religions, like Islam, Humanism, Paganism, Statism have grown more popular and more influential, Biblical Christianity is harder to find in most churches today? Then again, maybe that is why these pretenders to the faith are growing.
A FEW DISTINCTIVES
I was thinking about how far modern, western Christianity (not to mention historic, eastern Christianity and European Christianity) has gotten from the message of the Bible. As a believer and as a pastor, here are just a few of my doctrinal distinctives, which are fundamental beliefs in the New Testament.
Christ died for all sinners.
God enables sinners to believe, repent, confess and obey.
Jesus saves His people FROM their sins, Jesus does not save them IN their sins.
Jesus does not leave His people under the power of sin.
Jesus provides total cleansing from all sin in this present evil age, making us pure, even as He is pure.
The Holy Spirit leads us and empowers us to walk in truth, light, victory.
Jesus purifies to Himself a distinctive people, zealous of good works.
Either sin separates from God or God separates from sin.
God makes His people perfect in love.
God enables us to love our enemies.
God calls us to be peacemakers, wielding the sword of the Spirit and not the sword of steel, which is the States responsibility.
Homosexuality is still an horrific and destructive sin.
God's plan is for males to lead churches and for husbands to be the head of their families.
ATTACKS WILL COME
Now, people will twist these ideas to mean what they do not mean, or they will redefine and reinterpret what the Holy Bible says about these doctrines, or they will simply reject the Word of God. In any case, this is where I stand, and I ain't moving.
CHOOSING TO BE BIBLICAL
There are those who say I focus on the things that divide Christians. Actually, I focus on the things that unite Christians. Those who choose to believe something other than the Bible are the ones doing the separating. I have always wanted to have a belief system that would transcend time and space, by conforming to the New Testament standard of Christianity. Christian standards should be livable in America or anywhere else, and they should be livable today, or at any time in history. The Christian faith is not an easy believism that changes with the popular culture or political correctness of the day.
