We need to be choicy (an old timers term) about the things we believe and the people we trust. Through the years people have become less discriminating concerning Bible and doctrinal issues. In fact, Christians are more impressed with celebrity types, and subculture people, who have had more exciting conversions then those people who have studied the Word of God and Christian doctrine and served in ministry for many years. This is producing weak and incompetent believers and glutting the market with bad instruction.
MISPLACED CONFIDENCE
We are led to believe that a drug abuser who knows very little Bible, and then gets saved, is a better witness or advocate for responsible living than a believer who has chosen to live righteously and study Scripture throughout his life. This results in people publishing material that is popular and polititcally correct rather than the unadulterated, infallible word of God.
OBSTACLES TO SUCCESS
People want to be told that it is acceptable for Christians to be angry, selfish, violent, vengeful, worldly, rude, crude.
They don't want to be told that they should be willing to suffer, sacrifice, submit to authority at home and at church.
They don't want to be told to be tender hearted, kind, loving, self denying, humble, meek, spiritual.
They don't want to be told that women should be feminine, quiet, focused on their families.
They don't want to be told that men should provide for their families, lead their families spiritually, and serve the church.
They don't want to be responsible for their actions.
They want a feel good religion, a salvation with no offense and no ties to other people, no obligation to historic and Biblical revelation.
They want to promote ideas without the scrutiny of seasoned saints, without the restrictions of Biblical guidelines.
They want to be able to choose their associates, activities, alignments without requirement or restriction.
