Things are different today than they were yesterday. If not in kind, at least in degree. The kingdoms and nations of this world have not been the kingdom of God, and will not be until He returns. AND HE WILL.
EARTHLY LOYALTY
There are things I have admired and respected about the USA, as the greatest country to ever exist on the face of the planet (no brag, just fact). There are things I have admired and respected about my southern heritage and even in its stand for States rights (which is obviously on the chopping block today). Yes, there have been things in my American heritage that were not always commendable, but over all, it was still the best that this world had to offer.
COMING STORM
However, we are seeing our nation change fundamentally and the change is destructive. The attacks on Christians and the Christian faith are mounting and being supported with unconstitutional legal action. The little ripples of rebellion today will ground swell into tsunami size opposition by the grass roots society and the leaders in government. The abnormalities and abominations are too many to mention here. Besides, those who reject Christ won't believe the news reports or the stated platform of their own party, when it attacks the Christian faith. They are blind followers of the blind.
WORTHY LOYALTY
But this brings me to my main point. It was always wrong for people to think that their future was to be found in a government, an economy, an academia, a philosophy. Our hope, our loyalty, our lives belong to the God Who died for us and rose again. It is in service to Him and His kingdom that we should live our lives.
BIBLICAL TRUTH
Abraham caught a glimpse of this in the Old Testament, and the New Testament writer of Hebrews was shown this truth, for our understanding. Jesus said that His kingdom is not of this world and the writer of Hebrews said,
Hebrews 11:8-16
(8) By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
(9) By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
(10) For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
(11) Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
(12) Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
(13) These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
(14) For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
(15) And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
(16) But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
PREMIER LOYALTY
I am a part of whatever country I serve. In my case, I am an American. But beyond that, I am first of all a child, servant of God. I do not live for the advantages of, nor the establishing of this country, except in a very temporary way. Instead, Jesus is King, His word is my rule, His kingdom is my home.
