SO, WHO IS IN CHARGE?
or
WHO IS THE REAL ANARCHIST?
GOD'S LAWFUL ORDER
The Holy Bible tells us that whoever resists legitimate authority is an anarchist and will face judgment, as one who resists God. This is because God has given the power of maintaining moral and civil order to the government, with the force of the sword, to protect the righteous and punish the wicked. See (Ro. 13:1-8; Ti. 3:1; 1 Pe. 2:13-17; 2 Pe. 2:10).
How are we to know which rule to follow, when the rule of God *(Christian revelation) and the rule of "government" (man's rule) are in opposition?
* note... "Christian revelation" means the revelation of God, Old and New Testament, viewed through the filter of New Testament Christianity. For instance, Christians are not obliged to honor laws that were intended for Israel, as a Theocratic entity, such as sacrificial, dietary, ceremonial laws. However the moral laws against killing, stealing, lying, adultery (for instance) and the clearly defined directives to worship and serve the God of the New Testament (including God the Son) are binding upon all men and should not be opposed by any human government.
THE STATE SAYS...
When the rule of God (Christian revelation) conflicts with the rule of the State, men must obey the State rather than God.
GOD SAYS...
When the rule of the State (man's rule) conflicts with the rule of God, men must obey God rather than men. See (Ac. 4:19; 5:29).
THERE IS NO CONFLICT WITH GOD
Anarchy is resistance to, the rejection of and the revolt against all rule, including the rule of God and the legal rule of the State.
Anarchy is when the State resists or rejects the rule of God and requires or forces that disobedience on its citizenry.
ONE RULE
Those who obey the State in resisting or rejecting the rule of God are anarchist. Those who resist the State in obedience to the rule of God are not anarchist.
Remember...
It is possible for the State to declare something to be legal, which is immoral and illegal according to the rule of God.
It is possible for the State to declare something to be illegal, which is moral and legal according to the rule of God.
The State (human government) is responsible to submit to the rule of God. When the State requires or forces people to disobey God, then that State is in anarchy.
Christians are forbidden to follow the State in anarchy.
Romans 13:1-2 is not a blank check to the State to do whatever it chooses. Romans 13:1-2 is a check on all people, governments, religions, to acknowledge and honor the rule of God.
Romans 13:1-2
(1) Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
(2) Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
