Political correctness and the thought police have shown us that intolerance misapplied can demonize and destroy whatever they do not like, regardless of the facts and the feelings of honorable people.
I personally stopped displaying the Confederate flag many years ago because i knew there were people who mistakenly thought the flag represented nothing but racism. Rather than allow their misunderstanding to become a barrier to hear the Gospel of Christ, i simply accommodated them.
However, this recent attack against that flag, its history and those who properly honor it has become a modern day witch hunt. Those who hate the flag and errantly equate it with racism have bullied those who disagree with them and they have also denied freedom of thought to the rest of society. And by the way, attacking that flag will not remove hatred, racism and oppression.
I am bothered that any facts of history can be so easily purged. It is better to allow history to go un-revised, regardless of how distasteful it is. Christians should be concerned that our country has fallen to a point that allows one segment of society to remove all vestiges of another segment, based on their disapproval.
This will probably become a major weapon used by the enemies of the cross to stifle the message of salvation to the next generation of this country. It has happened before in other places.
Test Balloon
People may not realize it, but Satan sends up "test balloons" to see what he can do next. I believe the recent attack on the Confederate flag and that period of history was just such a probe. We just saw the power of prejudice rob the American people of the right to know and the right to believe whatever it chooses. This happened quickly and thoroughly, and without regard for basic American rights. And it was done in the name of justice.
No, I am not equating the flag and its history with Christianity. I am pointing out that we have entered a new low on political correctness which can easily transition to an attack on Christianity and the Holy Bible.
So, my argument...
It is wrong to revise or obliterate history.
We will see this tool used against the gospel and the Holy Bible.
