A GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

A GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING
Probably the most important gift you can give your child is a Bible with certain features.

* It should have a readable translation, and printing format. The translation should be faithful to the authoritative sources (formal rather than functional), such as KJV, NKJV, NASV, ASV. Though it should be readable, it should not be simplified. There is a certain level of studiousness required for sound Bible study.

* It should be physically durable, providing years of service.

* It should be convenient for travel.

* It would be good if it had reliable notes and cross references, such as the Thompson Chain Reference, or The Open or New Open Bible (I am not familiar with recent editions, therefore preliminary research should be done). The notes should not be sectarian. Not only is this important for personal study, but it is good for group reading and study.

* If a person is able to read a KJV without any problem, then that is good, but a NASV or NKJV is a good Bible for public services as well.

A Faithful Companion
Other Bibles and study sources are good and of course I am a faithful user of my electronic Bibles (I use E-Sword on my desktop and My-Sword on my hand devices). However, nothing should take the place of the kind of hard copy, printed Bible I recommended.

A good printed Bible with helps and notes is a great companion. It becomes a familiar tool. Personal notes can be added. You don't have to worry about your battery dying or your software getting corrupted, or your device getting broken.

I use my electronic Bibles all of the time, but thy do not take the place of a printed Holy Bible.
