There is one thing that Islam has, which Christianity does not have.
Christianity does not have the buried body of Jesus Christ. His tomb is empty.
Islam, however, has the buried remains of their founder, Muhammad. He is dead and buried, still, and his "resting" place is stunning. In fact, if Muhammad could see it, he would be stunned.
Jesus
The tomb of Jesus is not easily identifiable, because it was only a stopover, a weekend getaway, a borrowed overnighter. The tomb is important, because Jesus slept there, but He arose and went home after He finished His business trip to earth. As the first disciples were told when they returned to the tomb to tend His body, "He is not here, for He has risen as He said."
Muhammad
Wow, what an awesome area that honors the founder of Islam. He was buried in Medina, Saudi Arabia. Muhammad was buried in the ground, after being poisoned. A mosque was built nearby, and as time passed, the mosque was enlarged until it covered the ground containing Muhammad's bones. The dome was eventually painted green (I wonder if Obama knows this), and eventually this beautiful public place was built. It is awesome. Actually, the god of Islam condemned the Jews because they enshrined the burial places of the prophets, and offered prayers in those places. However, Muhammad gets a pass, because he was buried first, and then the shrine was built over him. Either way, he is still there. It was sort of like a retirement home, not a simple stopover. If you were to visit there today, you could be told, "He is here, but he is not receiving visitors at this time."
Jesus borrowed a tomb, and vacated within hours.
There is more excitement over the empty tomb of the Savior than the exquisite workmanship in a memorial to a dead man.
Muhammad was interred... and he is still there.
The entire area is beautiful, as far as man-made structures are concerned. As I looked at it I was reminded of the whited sepulchers, filled with dead men's bones, in Mt. 23:27.
I think I will stay with the One Who did not stay. I will go with the One who went to the cross, the tomb, to the closed room, to the Mount of Ascension, and to the right hand of the Father. In fact, I can't imagine following a dead man instead of the resurrected Christ. And one day, He will come back for me. Praise the Lord.
