NO SHOCK
I attended a meeting, some time ago, where the preacher stood before his audience and started his message by saying that some people who were there that day would not come back after they heard what he was about to tell them. I knew what was coming, but I also knew that he probably would not lose to many people, in spite of the fact that he was about to expose his false doctrine for everyone to see.
During his presentation he said that he would really like to ask God to save his daughter, but he knew that salvation does not work that way. God chooses who will be saved, and we have nothing to do with it. It is all up to God. He blamed his heresy on God Himself by saying that salvation is by God's election only, and no human "works of the flesh" (such as praying for someone's salvation) have any influence on the situation. Think about it. This guy was saying that he would not even pray for his own daughter's salvation, because God is going to save whoever He elects, without any condition (faith, repentance, confession, obedience). If this guy believed this about his own daughter's salvation, why would he care about your family? Why would you trust him to preach faith to your family? Why would anyone want to take their family or friends to such a message of error and hopelessness?
He misunderstands several things about God. He thinks that God unilaterally and unconditionally elects people to salvation and that God only chooses some to be saved and deliberately leaves others to be damned, with no possibility of salvation, because God supposedly elects some and leaves others. People will deny that this is double, unilateral, unconditional election or double predestination, but however you dress this heresy up, it is still contrary to the Holy Bible.
Well, he was wrong about several doctrinal issues that day. He may have been right when he said that some people would not return to hear him again, though I doubt that his false doctrine had much impact on very many people. Most people today are so use to false doctrines being barked from the pulpits of America that they are not bothered by yet another one, regardless of how devilish it is.
People are betting their souls on what they are hearing and reading today. They are betting the souls of their family and friends. They are betting the souls of the people they lead to these purveyors false doctrine.
Ain't it weird, people will run to these "churches" and run from the churches that tell them that Jesus saves from all sin! Then they will say that deliverance from all sin by the power of the blood of Christ, the power of the Holy Spirit, and the power of the word of God is teaching works salvation, legalism and dependence on the flesh. I know this happens. I run into it all the time.
The strange thing is, when most folks actually look at what the Bible says, they agree that the holiness of heart and life message is Biblical, and the Calvinist doctrines of sinning religion and unilateral-unconditional-election are contrary to the Bible. YET, they return to the trough to feed on the swill of man's teaching rather than follow the word of God. I guess I should not be shocked. I have read what God said about the last day's Church (Re. 3:14-22).
