ISIS OR ISIL?
I had my suspicions, and they have been validated. The "L" in ISIL is for "Levant." Okay, so that is not news. But my suspicion was that Obama chose to use it for anti- Israel purposes. And, sho nuff, he did. Just as his administration has referred to Jerusalem, the ancient and holy city of Israel, by its Arabic name, when talking to Muslims.
So, what is the big deal? Israel was established by God in the Old Testament and God gave the land to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Abraham's descendant, King David, ruled over Israel from Jerusalem, as did his son, Solomon. When the kingdom divided, another descendant ruled over Judah. God promised the throne of David, over Israel, to the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ. We know that Israel and Judah ceased being nations and Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans. Israel, as a nation has not existed for approximately two millennium. During that time Islam rose up (610 AD). Since the son of Hagar and the sons of Keturah claimed to be the rightful heirs of Abraham, they absorbed the land of Israel. Even to this day the Muslim world denies Israel's claim and they even deny that Israel existed as a nation.
Around 1500 AD the coastal region that is now known as Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Palestine, Cyprus, and part of Turkey, made up the area that became known as Levant. But remember, there was no Israel at that time. Israel did not return as a nation until 1948, much to the anger of the surrounding Muslim nations.
ISIS means Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, whereas, ISIL refers to the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant.
Obama has reasons for doing what he does. Obama is anti-Israel and is trying to either wrangle them out of existence through so-called diplomacy, or open the door for Iran to bomb them out of existence. He has already denied them out of existence, at least their place by referring to that region in strictly Muslim terms.
This is why I still call it ISIS.
