SOUND BITE CHRISTIANITY
Sound Bite Christianity is the choice for those who want to live a sound bite spiritual life. However, for those who want to live a meaningful, consistent Christ like life, a person must grow in GRACE and KNOWLEDGE concerning God and His word.
Sound Bite Christianity leaves itself open to attacks, unfounded criticism, error, self contradiction, human frailty. Sound bite Christianity produces sound bite Christians. Sound Bite Christianity collapses in the face of conflict. Sound Bite Christianity runs from confrontation. Sound Bite Christianity is the work of Satan.
2 Peter 3:17-18 (KJV)
(17) Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
(18) But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
2 Peter 3:17-18 (NLT)
17 I am warning you ahead of time, dear friends, so that you can watch out and not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people. I don't want you to lose your own secure footing.
18 But grow in the special favor and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be all glory and honor, both now and forevermore. Amen.
DLG NOTE ON TRANSLATION CHOICES
I quoted both the King James Version and "New Living Translation." I sometimes use various translations (as in this case), because present day English sometimes makes it easier to understand the meaning of the passage. It is not unusual for me to have various translations read during meetings. However, I rely on Formal Translations and language studies rather than Functional Translations for an accurate understanding of what God actually is saying. I would not choose a functional translation as my "go to" source. I would not rely on a functional translation. If I could have only one Bible available, it would be a formal translation, not a functional translation.
Without a proper understanding of the Bible, we will have a sound bite Christianity.
