OK, I would probably not rank in anyone's Top Ten Intellects list. However, I am so much better informed and knowledgeable about this than the vast majority of the nations leaders (religious, politicians, academics).
Dr. Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Church, Dallas said that the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution provided freedom of religion for Muslims (and all religions) just like it does for Christianity. IT AIN'T TRUE. There is nothing in the Christian faith that conflicted with the laws of the United States (since the laws of this nation were based on Juedeo/Christian beliefs), but there are laws in Islam that conflicts with the laws of the land.
Has the whole world lost its mind? Think about it. Who do you ever hear saying that, "freedom of religion in America was intended for Christians and not for all other religions."
Mayor Giuliani said in an interview this morning (as I have also heard other leading people say the same thing) that Christians changed the Bible to fit into modern times. HE IS NUTS. IT NEVER HAPPENED.
Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament laws and introduced this period of Grace instead of law. The Old Testament laws (sacrificial, civil, dietary, ceremonial) were from God, therefore they were appropriate.
If we think that the Old Testament would have been rough on law breakers, wait for the Kingdom Age, and Eternity. It will not be tough for the saved, because we will agree with, and gladly do that which is pleasing in God's sight (IN FACT, WE DO THAT NOW). If you do not gladly do the will of God, you too can get saved (1 Jn. 3:22; 1 Jn. 5:3).
The Danger
The problem with misinformed people spouting off their errors is that other gullible people believe them and then social views, public policy, and laws of the land follow, which builds our nation on quicksand.
The next time you hear these lies, just tell people they are wrong. They probably won't believe you, but at least the conversation should liven up.
