NOT SMART ENOUGH
Here are two of the traps that the highly educated fall into.
1. The non-believing person of letters disbelieves the Christian message because they accept the supposedly superior view of "experts," who are humanists, naturalists, materialists, pragmatists, realists, when they contradict the Bible.
They let their limited knowledge get in the way of their understanding, this is because they really don't have all the facts or their facts are askew or their facts are misinterpreted.
They let their limited view of supposed "facts" turn them against faith, as if facts and faith are mutually exclusive.
They confuse the concept of Christian faith with blind faith.
They close their minds to anything outside of their limited view of "truth."
They miss the point that God's word is true and accurate, even when they don't understand it or agree with it.
2. Trusting collateral "Christian" information and following "Christian" experts who major on the minors. It really does not matter how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, or which day of the week Jesus died, or the latest findings that seem to "clear-up" Biblical mysteries, or the insights discovered in ancient writings.
They reject the fundamental view of Scripture and Christian beliefs in favor of aberrant and "more academically sound views."
They follow "Christian" leaders because of their intellectual or social appeal.
They do not focus on Christ-likeness, but on "knowledge" that puffs them up.
They make Scripture subservient to "Christian research."
These people fancy themselves as being "smart" but they are not smart enough to be Biblical, and that makes them fools.
As you know, I could go on and on. My point is, don't let your fondness for "facts" harden you against faith.
No one is saved by accepting Christ, based on the accumulation of facts (though the facts do support faith and the facts are numerous), but we are saved by faith. Saving faith is not blind faith, which is nothing more than cheap believism, resulting in cheap grace, but saving faith is based on the revealed, eternal, infallible word of God, which results in grace that conforms us to the image of Jesus.
DON'T SPEND your time following men and their insights and new information. Instead, immerse yourself in the study of the Scriptures rather than in the studies about the Scriptures. There is need and room for collateral material, external information, but it must not set the course of belief. The Bible must set the course of belief.
